Westmanstown Wasps

Westmanstown Wasps, originally formed as Westmanstown Taggers in 2014, as part of the Garda Rugby Football Club (GRFC), at Westmanstown Sports Centre, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, to provide an opportunity for young people with disabilities and/or special needs to learn to play tag rugby. In doing so, the players learn and develop their physical and coordination
skills as well as expanding their social, communication and networking abilities.

Westmanstown Wasps, aka Westmanstown Taggers is a registered charity with the Irish Charities Regulator, (RCN 20082611) and files an annual report to the Charities Regulator.
The Wasps have their own committee and trustees who oversee the finance, activities and running of the section. The players themselves chose to name their team Westmanstown Wasps as each disability team adopts the name of an animal, bird or creature.

Through a team of dedicated volunteer coaches, parents and friends, Westmanstown Wasps (The Wasps) has grown into a vibrant section of the Garda/Westmanstown RFC, that competes in disability rugby blitz tournaments and the Wasps have played demonstration games in front of large crowds at half-time in European and URC professional rugby championship games.

Westmanstown Wasps are a fully registered Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) disability rugby team and each of our coaches are fully accredited and registered with the IRFU as well as being Garda vetted. The Wasps train every Sunday at 12pm in Westmanstown Sports Centre and play in a number of disability blitz tournaments throughout the rugby season from September to June, as well as hosting their own blitz every September, in Westmanstown.

The Wasps also participate in the Wooden Spoon Charity, disability rugby festival for teams from the UK and Ireland. The next Wooden Spoon festival will be in Coventry, England, in June 2026 and The Wasps are currently planning for this event.
